Wamakersvallei
is situated in what is surely one of the
most scenic pockets of our winelands. Directly translated
Wamakersvallei means ‘Valley of the Wagons’ and owes its name to the
intrepid pioneers who would stop over in the little town of
Wellington at the edge of the Dutch Cape Colony’s frontier to check
their wagons before venturing into the wild and uncharted interior.
Sun-drenched
pockets of fruit are tenderly harvested from vineyards spanning a
diverse and unique range of micro- and microclimates in Riebeek-West,
Wellington and towards Paarl. These sites are arguably
Wamakersvallei’s most precious assets and the secret to our
astounding success.
In response to Government initiatives to democratise all South African Industry, 18 formerly disadvantaged workers at the Wamakersvallei Winery in Wellington have established a separate trading entity, the INKQUEBELA PHAMBILI EMPOWERMENT TRUST, as a genuine empowered business within the wine industry.
Phamibili means ‘Moving Forward’ in the local Xhosa language
The Phambili Trust is an asset owning business responsible for wine treatments and processing, and is looking at ways to add further value to their business through the creation of their own brand PHAMBILI which is being launched in the important US market this year.
