Rogue Valley
Rogue Valley, Southern Oregon
The Rogue Valley winegrowing region is separated into three microclimates: the Illinois, Applegate and Rogue River valleys.

The Illinois Valley's yearly rainfall is approximately 35 inches. The Illinois Valley is similar to the Burgundian winegrowing region in France. The Rogue Valley is warmer, with an annual average of 20 inches of rainfall. Hot, sunny days and cool nights aid the development of intense, flavorful fruit. Applegate shares both the Rogue and Illinois valleys' climates. This sub-appellation became officially recognized in December of 2000 as Applegate Valley Appellation, Oregon's 6th Nationally Recognized Wine Region. The major grape varieties of the Rogue Valley are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Pinot noir, Cabernet franc and Sauvignon blanc.
